WE HAVE IT RIGHT HERE IN WACO!

Hand held device ILux

Every time you blink, a protective layer of moisture called the tear film coats the front surface of your eye. An essential part of the tear film is an oily layer called meibum. MGD (Meibomian Gland Disease) occurs when the Meibomian glands that produce meibum get blocked, or the secreted meibum is of poor quality and the aqueous part of the tears evaporate, as there is no oily layer to protect them. Often times, you can use warm compresses to heat up the glands and try to massage them. This is only mildly effective.

unhealthy, clogged meibomian glands cause styes and dry eye symptoms

Recently, A few devices came out to treat this common condition that affects over 30 million people in the US. These devices, such as the ILux from Alcon, warm up the meibomian glands with warming LEDs, then “express” the glands with gentle pressure– that means we squeeze them !

This release of old, clogged, thick oils in the eyelid glands allows for new, clear, oils to flow more freely and give YOU more comfortable tears. This is the treatment for dry eye–to give your eyes more oil and more water– for best tissue health.
